3 nutrition tips for personal chefs

While working as a private chef means you're often at the whims of your employer, there may be times when your input on diet and nutrition is highly valued. If you specialize in this area, make sure you market your skill as a nutritionist to find a client looking to embrace a healthier lifestyle. If you don't have nutritious recipes in your repertoire, however, you can still offer advice to an employer looking to lose weight or treat health concerns through his or her diet.

Below are a few tips for optimizing the health of your employer and yourself:

Cook with healthy fats – Rather than cooking with canola oil or vegetable oil, opt for healthier fats such as coconut oil, olive oil or grass-fed butter. These options are much better for cooking with and reduce the consumption of cholesterol-raising fats while still providing a healthy amount of fat content in any meal.

Cut down on sugar – While the health debate regarding sugar yo-yos on a regular basis, it is still a fact that sugar consumption is far too high across America. Try to cut back on the sugar and provide healthier snacking and dessert options on your menu. Even if your client drinks soda daily, opting for fruit instead of cookies can reduce their overall sugar intake.

Include more vegetables – It can be easy to include more vegetables in your employer's meals without them even realizing. Making soups is a great way to slip in additional servings of carrots, onions, peppers and other vegetables in, while you can also make casseroles and other multi-ingredient dishes also allow for increased vegetable use in the kitchen.
