6 tips to help boost your interviewing skills: Part Two

One of the reasons you are awarded a position is because you prepared properly for the interview and it showed.

In the final edition to our two-part series, we examine three more unique ways to help you boost your interviewing skills:

1. Practice with a friend or family member

In part one of our series, we suggested you practice interviewing in front of a mirror. This helps you improve your verbal and nonverbal cues. Once you feel confident, you should stage a mock interview with a family member or friend.

It's best they come up with their own questions so the mock interview is as close to the real thing as possible. Then, have them provide you with feedback on what you did well and what you can improve upon.

2. Prepare some bold questions

Stay away from generic questions that don't add much value to your candidacy. Jot down specific questions about the position and where you fit in. Writing these questions down before an interview will also help you prepare because you're thinking outside the box. By thinking of the position in new ways, you can then provide the recruiting firm with interesting details about what you'd bring to the table.

3. Brainstorm

Along with preparing questions, brainstorm some ways you feel you could fit into your role. For example, if you're applying to be a chef, design your own weekly menu featuring healthy dishes for kids. Put together a schedule that maps out meals over the course of a couple of weeks. While this plan would inevitably have to be altered depending on the family's desires, it still shows the hiring manager you are well prepared.
