6 ways to become a better personal assistant: Part Two

It's not easy being a personal assistant, let alone a great one. You're the right-hand person to your boss, responsible for leading meetings, putting together important reports and talking to clients. Depending on your job, your boss may even require you to do some grocery shopping or drop suits off at the dry cleaners.

In part one of our two-part series, we provided three tips on how you can become a better personal assistant. These included becoming indispensable, being a spokesperson and continuing to learn the trade. Here are three more pieces of advice to help further your career:

1. Always ask questions

In part one, we said you should be a student and always reserve time to learn more about your industry. Besides sitting in on classes or taking part in industry events, another way to be a student is to ask questions. By asking questions, you come across as engaged and willing to learn.

2. Represent your company well

It doesn't matter whether or not you're on company time. You need to always represent the company in a positive light. Be careful about what you post online and how you act in public.

3. Understand the big picture

As a personal assistant, you can't just go through the motions. While you may be getting paid to "be at work" between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., you're actually on the clock at any time of day.
