It's more difficult than ever for families to spend quality time together. More often than not, both parents are working and kids are off playing with their friends or participating in extracurricular activities. In part three of our three-part series, we look at how you can better organize your time at the office so you have more time having fun at home.
1. Make a family bucket list
After you're done creating a to-do list of chores for your family, create a to-do list of activities your family can take part in. Designate a day of the week to be "family day." This could be a Friday night or a Saturday or Sunday. Each weekend complete an activity on the list together.
Along with an activities bucket list, create a list of short-term goals you and your spouse can work toward to take part in more extravagant activities.
2. Cut down on going into the office
Can you work four days a week instead of five? What are your office's work-from-home policies? By maximizing your time at work, you can better take advantage of the free time you have to spend with your family. Many companies are open to telecommuting, but few people feel comfortable asking their supervisor or hiring manager for the extra benefit.
If telecommuting or decreasing the amount of days you work isn't an option, hire a personal assistant. He or she can do something as simple as keeping your personal calendar up-to-date or as difficult as helping you put together a corporate presentation.
