Nanny Tips

Fun St. Patrick’s Day activities for kids

Happy St. Patrick's Day! If you're planning on celebrating this holiday with the children you nanny for, take a look at some helpful tips. Engaging in fun activities is a great way to teach kids about the history of the holiday while challenging them to use their creativity:

  • Cupcakes: Most kids (and adults) love sweet treats. While you're watching the kids, whip up some vanilla or chocolate cupcakes and have them help decorate with green frosting. To stay with the theme, they can even top the desserts with Lucky Charms cereal, green sprinkles or chocolate gold coins.
  • Limerick: "Limericks are funny, often nonsensical poems that are five lines long and follow a strict rhyme scheme of AABBA," writes Shannan Younger of blog Chicago Now. "The first, second and fifth lines all rhyme and have the same number of syllables, typically eight or nine. The third and fourth lines rhyme and usually have five or six syllables. Limericks also start with 'There once was a …'" The kids will get a kick out of creative, silly and humorous poems!
  • Rainbow hand print: If the kids you watch over love arts and crafts, they'll enjoy making festive rainbow hand prints. Simply dip their hands in rainbow-colored washable paint and have them make a print on construction paper. Use gold foil to create a "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow.
