“Nanny of the Year” talks about the keys to success

The International Nanny Association (INA) named Joanne Barrow the 2013 Nanny of the Year. Barrow has been a nanny for over a decade and took time to share some of her keys to success with Nanny Magazine.

"Nannying has to be one of the most gratifying careers you can choose," Barrow tells the magazine. "For me it's brought over 20 years of diversity, challenge, growth, love, and immense personal satisfaction watching my charges grow up. It's truly an honor to have played even a small role in each child's development. Nannying is important and meaningful work to me."

When asked what qualities make a great nanny, Barrow listed the below attributes:

  • Lasting relationships: The Nanny of the Year believes that she was nominated for the prestigious award because of her ability to form lasting relationships with those she watched over. Even though the children she once cared for when she began her career are now in their twenties, she still makes time to catch up. She uses Skype and FaceTime to communicate with those far away.
  • Professionalism: Barrow believes that it is important to act as a role model, both inside and outside of the job. Maintaining a professional persona is essential in garnering respect from both children and the parents who employ you.

As you can see, being a nanny is a rewarding career and gives you the opportunity to make a positive, long-lasting influence on children and their families. If you're looking for nanny jobs in California, be sure to register with Colonial Domestic Agency
