Tips for the modern parent

Do you always feel like you're on the go? From juggling work to making sure that your pre-teens aren't watching too much TV, being a parent in the 21st century is no easy task. Recently, Christie Koh, author of  "Minimalist Parenting: Enjoy Modern Family Life More By Doing Less," shared her tips with Care.com. Take a look at some of the helpful pointers:

  • Ask for help: "The reality is, you only have 24 hours in a day. It's not a sign of weakness to get help; it's a sign of strength. Whether you need to carve out a little more time to hit a work deadline, get breathing room during school pick up transitions, or crave a date night with your partner, book a sitter and give yourself the gift of time, " writes Koh. Hiring a live-in nanny to watch your children can not only save you time, it can also help forward your career.
  • Make a chore-chart: Making a chore-chart can teach children responsibility. If you feel like your chores are never-ending, hiring a housekeeper is an easy solution.
  • Manage your family's calendar: Between taking your daughter to dance class and scheduling a play date for your son, your weeks are very busy. Before jam-packing your schedule this February, take a step back and realize what's important. Don't overbook you time, because this will only make both you and your little ones cranky.
