Whitney, who is originally from Minnesota, began working for the Helm family while she was a student at the University of North Dakota. Her daily tasks include helping the children dress in the morning, preparing meals and performing household chores. In the summer, she keeps them busy with activities, taking them to swimming classes and a reading program. The Helms also have three dogs that Whitney manages as well.
Before hiring Whitney, Amy Helm — the children's mother — had a difficult time finding and keeping good childcare providers. After interviewing over a dozen candidates, Helm considered putting the kids in daycare or even leaving her job so she could stay at home. Fortunately for the Helms, Whitney changed all that.
"I thought, 'We can't go through this, having people who don't last,'" Helm told the Herald. "I was very stressed. When we hired Trina all that stress went away […] She's so mature for her age. She's very capable of handling things. She has a really good head on her shoulders."
