6 ways to make a great impression as a personal assistant: Part 2

It takes a lot of hard work to become a great personal assistant. However, with the right guidance, you can improve your relationship with your employer and make your job a heck of a lot easier.

In the final part of our two-part series, we explore a couple more ways to make a great impression as a personal assistant:

1. Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid to make suggestions. Don't be afraid to improve process. Don't be afraid to step into unfamiliar roles. I think you get the point. The best personal assistants aren't fearless, but they know how to manage fear or anxiety and channel it into producing some of their best work.

Executives want to work with like-minded people. And we don't mean employees who agree with everything they say. After all, where's the progress in that? What they do want is to work with assistants who can catch a mistake and offer a solution, or those who can make current processes better.

2. Be a machine…with human emotions
Personal assistants need to take breaks like every employee, but the great ones are able to maximize their time. Not a second is wasted. Executives are often under the wire to complete deadlines, so they need an assistant who can keep up with them. The best personal assistants are also able to fearlessly ensure their bosses are operating efficiently.

3. Think creatively
We don't mean the best personal assistants need to know how to draw, paint and write literature. What we do mean is they need to be able to solve problems pragmatically and creatively. This is where our advice "don't be afraid" really comes into play. Solving problems, especially in new ways, helps instill trust in employers.
